Officer Jenkins in action
Getting pulled over by a police car is always nerve-racking, even when you haven’t done anything wrong. But what happened to Shanice Tucker might change your perspective.
Officer Jenkins pulled Shanice over because of a faulty brake light. She was on her way to a job interview and had no idea why the officer wanted her to stop. The situation soon became clear.
"Don’t worry, you don’t need to give me anything," Officer Jenkins said as Shanice reached for her license. "I just wanted to let you know that your brake lights aren’t working."
Shanice explained that she had replaced the lights just a month ago, and the company wanted $600 to check the car’s wiring. Jenkins asked her to open the trunk. He fiddled with the lights, tapping them a few times to no avail, then asked her to pop the hood so he could check the relay box and the other light.

Shanice wasn’t sure how to feel. Was the officer helping her or about to hand her a ticket? She was already nervous about her job interview and the unexpected stop. But this story has a happy ending.
Officer Jenkins had every right to issue a ticket and demand she fix the lights, but he chose otherwise. He made sure she could drive safely. After this experience, Shanice shared her story online, writing, "He could’ve easily given me a ticket, but Officer Jenkins stepped out of his role to make sure I was alright."
Shanice’s post went viral, gaining over 388,000 likes and more than 91,000 shares. Officer Jenkins' police department also shared her post, thanking her for the heartfelt gesture.
"Thank you, Shanice Tucker, for sharing this about one of our officers," they wrote on their Facebook page. "We are proud of our officers, especially when citizens share things like this. Officer Jenkins went above and beyond. Community service is what matters."
