An 11-year-old boy and his dad made headlines in Italy for their incredible journey: walking over 1,700 miles just to hug his grandmother in the UK.
Romeo Cox, the adventurous 11-year-old, decided to join his dad Phil on a nearly three-month-long trek to give his grandma a hug. His 77-year-old grandmother doesn't get to see her Sicilian grandkids often.
Reportedly, their journey mostly through the mountains brought them face-to-face with wildlife, and they even managed to tame a wild donkey they encountered along the way.
When asked how he managed the expedition and if it was tough, Romeo said it was easy and he would gladly do it all over again. "Our main difficulty was getting lost a few times," laughs Phil. "Not to mention the time we accidentally slept under a wasp nest, which we realized was a terrible idea way too late. My feet also started to bleed at one point, but giving up wasn’t an option for us."
The father-son duo crossed the English Channel and raised tens of thousands of pounds for a refugee charity in the process. On the 21st of September, they finally reached Grandma Rosemary's home, and Romeo got the hug he had been yearning for.
