Rescued at Sea: Angelica Gaetan's Miraculous Survival Story

The incredible tale of Angelica Gaetan, which recently made waves in Colombian media, is nothing short of a miracle. Two years ago, Angelica was declared missing, leaving her family and friends in despair. Months of searching seemed fruitless until fishermen unexpectedly found her off the coast.

Rolando Visbal and Gustavo, the fishermen who discovered her, initially couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw something floating in the water. As they drew closer, they were shocked to find it was a woman clinging to a life ring, drifting with the ocean’s gentle swells.

After rescuing her from the sea, they realized she was severely exhausted and took her to the hospital. Doctors diagnosed her with severe hypothermia. According to local reports from 'La Libertad' newspaper, Angelica had been adrift for eight hours. Had she not mustered the strength to raise her hand and signal for help, her fate could have been grim. "We pulled her onto the boat and tried speaking to her in both Spanish and English, but she just burst into tears and remained silent for a long time. After about half an hour, she finally said, 'I was reborn, Hashem didn’t want me to die.' Her rescue was truly a miracle," they recounted.

At the hospital, Rolando and Gustavo learned that Angelica had been presumed missing for two years. Behind her disappearance lay a harrowing story of domestic abuse, homelessness, deep depression, and an eventual journey to the sea as she lost the will to live.

It was the last place Angelica intended to be. "I had no help from anyone, not even my family. I decided to enter the water and let the waves take me so this nightmare could end," she shared.

Angelica is now receiving care at the hospital and is under the watchful eye of local authorities to ensure she also receives the mental health support she desperately needs.
