Every parent wishes to shield their children from the hurtful comments that often come from other kids, and sometimes even adults.
When Mariana Bowering's daughter, Angelica, was born, Mariana immediately realized her life would come with challenges due to the bright red birthmarks covering Angelica's face. "She was a beautiful baby, captivating all our hearts," Mariana recalled.
From a young age, little Angelica attracted unusual stares from strangers on the street, not to mention the hurtful remarks. "The worst comment I received was when someone asked if her face had been pushed into a frying pan because it looked like it had been fried. That remark saddened me for weeks," Mariana shared.

According to Mariana, she does everything possible to ensure Angelica grows up knowing she is beautiful just the way she is, despite the negative comments from people around her. Recently, for Angelica’s second birthday, Mariana decided to give her a gift she would never forget:
"I chose to paint my face to match my daughter's birthmarks, using professional makeup. I got the idea from Vascular Awareness Day, where people are encouraged to draw a heart on their cheeks," Mariana explained in an interview with 'The Times.' "At first, I simply drew a basic heart, but then I thought, why not replicate Angelica's birthmarks? After all, it’s something to be proud of, not to be ashamed,"
