In India, a baby named Adam was born with a rare condition that left him without eyelids or a nose, and with fused limbs. His terrified parents were so ashamed, they refused to accept him.
Despite having a healthy brain, lungs, and heart, Adam's different appearance was enough to drive away those who were supposed to love him most – his biological parents.
One day, his mother threatened the medical staff, "I'm telling you, I will kill him. I'll just poison him, and that's it."
In the room at the time were nurse Jessica and nurse Raja Polraj – a married couple working at the same hospital. They knew immediately their lives were about to change forever. "Calm down, let's figure out together what we can do for this baby," smiled Jessica with understanding and empathy.
The couple looked at each other and instantly knew their decision: these two heroes decided to take charge and give Adam a true chance at life.
"As soon as I held him in my arms, I knew I had to adopt him. Raja saw it immediately and, with a glance, he signaled his agreement," recalls a tearful Jessica.
They took Adam to the United States, where he underwent a series of surgeries with specialist doctors who were able to create new eyelids and a mouth.
Today, five years later, Adam receives love, dedicated care, and widespread community support, thanks to the kindness of his adoptive parents. Though his mouth remains slightly deformed, making speaking and communicating with peers difficult, his dedicated parents refuse to give up on him despite the challenges. "We'll fight to give him all the confidence and love he deserves," the couple explains. "He didn't choose to be born this way. He deserves to be loved just like any other child."
