A heartwarming trend is spreading across the US, bringing warmth to both the hearts and bodies of its residents. Scarves in a spectrum of colors and designs are being tied around trees, streetlights, and signposts, suitable for both men and women.
Hundreds now adorn the streets, each with a small note carrying a touching message for the finder: "I am not lost. If you feel cold, please take me," reads one note.
The lovely initiative is spearheaded by a group of women, including a lady named Elizabeth Sammons, who spent the past year knitting these scarves. "We're at the start of winter, one of the harshest seasons in the US. Many homeless people among us lack warm clothing and often feel too ashamed to ask. I think it's wonderful to do something for these people, who are part of our community," she tells WCCO News.
"There are thousands of homeless people in the US who spend their nights in freezing conditions and would be thrilled to receive a new scarf as a gift. That's why we leave these scarves and sometimes warm hats with them," she explains. "It may be a simple gesture, but for someone with very little, I believe it means a lot."
