When Nancy Bloor walked into her Iowa classroom on what seemed like a normal day, she didn't expect to make a decision that would change someone's life. "Everyone who knows me knows I love children, and that's why I chose my profession. I adore the kids in my class and do everything to keep them happy," the 54-year-old Bloor shared.
That day, Nancy noticed four-year-old Camden behaving unusually. "He was withdrawn, not talking to anyone. He seemed extraordinarily sad and isolated," she recalled. "I decided to have a little chat with him to figure out what was bothering him."
In a frail, childlike manner, Camden revealed his pain. "My dad is sick... something's wrong with his heart," he told the concerned teacher.
"At that moment, I realized something terrible was happening, and I needed to act fast," Nancy recounted to ABC News. She asked her assistant to cover for her and quickly called Camden's father, 34-year-old Darreld Petersen.
"It's simply amazing. People wait every day for a kidney, and I got one without any effort"
When Nancy told Darreld what happened in class, he broke down in tears of gratitude. He explained that his issue was not with his heart but his kidneys. "He told me they recently discovered his kidneys were failing, functioning at just 20 percent," Nancy explained. "He also mentioned looking sickly, which saddened and scared Camden. After all, it's his dad."
Nancy couldn't remain composed and decided to take action. "I could offer Camden babysitting, grocery help, cooking, but I knew that wouldn't solve the real problem," she stated.
So she made a bold choice, offering the one thing Darreld desperately needed: a kidney donation. Camden's father was shocked by her suggestion and the ease with which she proposed it.
"I was thrilled," Darreld shared in an interview. "It's simply amazing. People wait every day for kidneys or other organs, and I received one without any effort. Nancy turned out to be a match, and I still can't process that she's going to save my life. I wish more people were like her; she's giving me a second chance."
