Rob Jones, a double amputee, is inspiring America: Jones is a former sergeant in the U.S. Marines who lost both legs in Afghanistan after stepping on an IED.
After a period of recovery, Jones refused to succumb to his limitations and took up various sports, including rowing and cycling.
In the coming month, Jones plans to run 31 marathons in 31 different cities across Canada and the United States, all in just 31 days.
Jones began his current challenge on October 12 in London, UK, and has since returned to the U.S. to continue running in various cities. He is expected to complete this challenge on Veterans Day—a day to honor American war veterans—in Washington, D.C.
On his official website, Jones posted the reason for his efforts: "I am running to be a stronger person. I hope this marathon month will unite citizens and military veterans in the United States. I want to bridge the gap between these two communities and allow veterans to integrate into society. My hope is to make citizens appreciate and honor veterans for their sacrifices."
Jones's run is expected to raise funds, which he plans to donate to three nonprofit charities that support veterans and the wounded.
