Where does chocolate milk come from? A recent report in the Washington Post uncovers some surprising findings: 7% of American adults think the milk that makes chocolate milk comes from brown cows.

The survey was conducted by the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy and involved asking around 1,000 people questions about their daily dairy consumption habits. Of those surveyed, 48% said they're unsure if chocolate milk comes directly from cows, 29% admitted they regularly buy chocolate milk but claim it's for their children at the store, and 7% believe brown cows produce the milk used for chocolate milk.

"I think this misconception comes from people living in more rural, agricultural areas," says Cecily Upton, founder of a food production company called FOODCORPS. "In these places, there tends to be more belief in different myths, characterized by a bit of naiveté."
