When Amir and Yael Luzon married last year, they knew exactly where they wanted their wedding gift money to go. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Amir shared their decision to donate any remaining funds, after covering expenses, to a cause they deeply care about.
"Hello, I'm Amir, and in a week, my future wife Yael and I are getting married," Luzon wrote. "We didn't connect with the commercial wedding industry that demands over $25,000 and makes guests feel financially burdened," he continued.
They decided to seek a different path, hosting a joyous occasion for those who truly wanted to celebrate with them—but at a fraction of the cost. "Then it struck us, why not donate all the money received, after expenses, to something meaningful?" Luzon shared. They quickly agreed on supporting an organization aiding at-risk youth and children.
"We Met Many Angels Ready to Assist"
After visiting a specific children's home, they felt no doubt about their choice. "During our visit, we learned they needed a learning room for children with learning difficulties, so we decided to help fund it," Amir said.
Some people found their choice extreme, bordering on "insanity." "People thought we were crazy," they added. Still, Yael and Amir followed their convictions, eventually becoming part of the extended family surrounding the children's home. Service providers they spoke to eagerly participated in the donation effort, waiving typical fees and contributing without hesitation.
They met many 'angels' in human form, eager to seize this significant mitzvah, to help and give as much as possible. "These suppliers' contributions significantly reduced our wedding expenses, allowing us to increase our donation to the children's home. With the wedding just a week away, we're incredibly excited," Amir expressed.
Concluding his message, Amir urged other young couples to use their wedding funds to "give back love to society, supporting a cause that matters to you, for the reward will ultimately be ours."
