Jewish Guinness Record? That's what the creators are claiming—350 people, including children, gathered today in Jerusalem for this special event. The 'world's largest matzo' measures seven and a half meters in length and two meters in width, using about 75 kilograms of dough to make it.
Leading this fascinating initiative is the 'Friendship Circle Foundation,' a group dedicated to supporting people with disabilities and integrating them into social activities as equals. Each participating child received a piece of dough to roll into flat matzos, which were then linked together on a giant iron mesh. "We've got one hour to make the longest matzo you've ever seen," announced a huge banner at the entrance, exciting hundreds of children and their parents who came to take part in making the matzo.
Once the process was completed, and all the small circles were combined into one large matzo, the matzo was 'baked' with a torch lightning fast to prevent rising. 'Friendship Circle' aimed to surpass the existing record held by Manischewitz for a matzo measuring 7.29 by 1.05 meters. "We used a construction mesh and pigeon netting as a mold," says Chani Kantman, a representative of 'Friendship Circle.' "We arranged the matzos in a flower shape over it, added another layer of pigeon netting, and tied it together with rope. Then we lifted the iron mesh and hung it on very strong poles."
Commenting on the intriguing initiative, Kantman said the goal was to ensure equal treatment of people with disabilities, while also raising collective awareness of the issue. "People should think about whether they know anyone with disabilities who has nowhere to be and invite them," Kantman said. "This can open hearts and provide a new perspective on those with special needs."
