This story illustrates the everyday miracles that occur in the world, reminding us to open our eyes and appreciate them. Even when not faced with grand miracles, there are countless small reasons to be thankful in our daily lives.

When Kyle turned five, his mom Lori wanted to celebrate his birthday with his younger sisters, Emma and Katie, and their grandmother, at a local fair. Armed with loads of good cheer, the family got into the car, headed for the party. Unfortunately, they never arrived. A truck veered off the road and collided forcefully with Lori's car, causing Lori and her mom Cindy to lose consciousness. The children in the backseat were critically injured and rushed to the hospital, but did not survive.

"Losing children is an experience no parent should ever face. Such pain is unimaginable," Chris, the father, said in an interview a year later. "Luckily, Lori survived, but we've been through very tough times together. I can't imagine how our lives would look today if we hadn't had more children."

"The hardest part for me was hearing the neighborhood kids when they went to activities or played outside," Lori recalls. "Our neighborhood is full of kids the same ages as Kyle, Katie, and Emma, and every encounter was like a nightmare for us. We couldn't understand why they were alive, and our kids weren't."

When asked how they moved forward and found light despite everything, the couple responded, "At some point, when you realize there's nothing you can do about the grief, you just want to move past it and truly heal. The drive for life is stronger than anything else, and we have the choice to either rise from our sorrow or continue to drown in it," Chris explains.

How did they actually move forward? "Three months after the grief had shattered us in every possible way, we made two significant decisions: First, to stay together and rebuild our relationship at any cost. Second, to try to bring more children into the world," says Chris. Lori adds, "Despite the pain, we couldn't imagine ourselves as a couple without children."

Lori and Kyle began fertility treatments intending to have just one child. But a few months into the process, a miracle occurred: "The doctor called us into his office and smiled broadly with news: 'The egg cells have split into three. You know what that means, right?' he asked us. We couldn't believe it was really happening, but we felt it was some kind of sign from above."

Thus, just a year after the deaths of Kyle, Emma, and Katie, Lori and Chris were blessed with another set of triplets named Ashley, Ellie, and Jack. "Kyle, Emma, and Katie's place is forever held in our hearts, and nothing will change that. But the second set of triplets certainly gave us a good reason to continue believing in the goodness of life. They fill our hearts with so much love and laughter, and we are incredibly thankful to have them."
