According to data published in 2000, the most common surnames in the U.S. were Smith, Johnson, Williams, Brown, and Jones.
After several years of research, researcher Simon Davis released fascinating new data this week, shedding new light on the topic.
Davis published the findings on the American site Mental Floss, presenting deeper insights than his predecessors, including a particularly surprising finding: the most common surnames in New York and New Jersey are 'Cohen' and 'Schwartz,' which are notably of Jewish descent.
