An incredible story has been circulating on social media, capturing the imagination of many: An officer injured in a military training accident due to a discharged weapon underwent a complex series of surgeries. With Hashem's grace, he made it through and was slowly returning to normal. Though his recovery was long and arduous, once fully healed, he wished to resume his old position.
The army granted his request, but just a few months later, another bullet hit him in exactly the same place, and this time, the injury was far worse. The doctors, knowing that all local options had been exhausted during the first incident, advised him to undergo further extensive surgeries abroad. "With the advanced technology available overseas, you'll have a better chance of recovery," they told him.
The officer accepted the advice and mentally prepared for his journey abroad. However, just before his flight, friends suggested consulting with scholars at the 'Beit David' kollel in Holon for their insights. "Perhaps they will offer a 'better cure' for your condition," they suggested.
And so it happened.
When the officer reached the kollel and shared his troubles with the scholars, they directed him to Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Yitzhak Zilberstein, who listened intently. Upon hearing the whole story, the Rabbi briefly said, "You must check the mezuzahs in your home."
The officer didn't delay, promptly sending his home's mezuzahs for inspection. To everyone's amazement, the words 'by your hand' were damaged. Rabbi Zilberstein, upon seeing this chilling discovery, instructed the officer not to travel abroad but to urgently acquire high-quality mezuzahs instead.
The officer fulfilled his obligation, and within just a few short weeks, he completely recovered, no longer needing treatment in the U.S. Unbelievable as it may seem, this story underscores the power of a mezuzah and the importance of maintaining the integrity of the letters within its sacred text.
