The fear that haunts every cruise passenger became a reality this week for a 32-year-old Chinese woman named Miss Peng. During a voyage on a giant seven-story ship, Miss Peng leaned against the deck railing and, in a fleeting moment of inattentiveness, plunged into the churning sea below.
Remarkably, not only did she survive the fall from such a height, avoiding immediate death, but she also endured 38 hours in a sea filled with dangerous creatures — without a life jacket. How did she manage this feat? It's the million-dollar question.
Local media in China reported that Miss Peng is an athletic individual with excellent swimming skills, holding several sports accolades. Her survival was no accident. Interestingly, despite being with her parents on the ship, they didn't notice her absence for many hours.
Luckily for the young woman, a passing fishing boat noticed her and rescued her from the water. Another factor contributing to her survival was the slightly warm temperature of the water, which prevented her from suffering hypothermia and losing consciousness.
