About 27 years ago, Ingeborg McIntosh fought like a lioness to adopt little Jordan, who was in the foster care home where she worked. For four whole years, she wrote letters to various authorities, pleading to adopt Jordan with whom she had formed a deep connection.
However, the process was anything but easy, filled with obstacles mainly set by Jordan's biological mother, who insisted that her son be adopted by African American parents for personal reasons.
The long-awaited moment finally arrived. Ingeborg was granted the adoption and she did not disappoint. She cared for and loved him as her own son. "From the moment they placed him in my arms, I felt love at first sight. He became an integral part of the family instantly," Ingeborg stated.
As the years went by, and Jordan got to know the goodness of his adoptive mother, he knew the day would come to give back: Twenty years ago, Ingeborg was struck by a severe illness, which recently began impacting one of her kidneys.
When Jordan heard about this, he quietly concocted a plan to donate his kidney, without his mother's knowledge. "I got tested, and when I was found a match, I knew it was a sign from above, a call I couldn’t ignore. It’s the least I can do, and I hope to contribute and help her even more," he said.
When his mother first heard of his intentions, she was deeply moved but urged him not to proceed. "He's so young, and it's an invasive surgery. I'm sure another donor can be found," she tried to dissuade him. But Jordan was adamant. "You’ve done so much for me since I was a baby, and this is my way of showing you how much I appreciate you," he persisted and succeeded.
This week, his mother underwent the surgery and is now in recovery.
