It all started when Shoshi Gros-Galeb posted on her Facebook page, sharing the story of her late grandfather's shop in Haifa, where he used to repair baby carriages. Amazingly, this post found its way to just the right person, leading to an unforgettable keepsake for Shoshi.
Dozens of people who read her story on Facebook were moved to tears. Many reminisced about their own childhood memories with their grandparents. Shoshi wrote, "I have to share this touching story of personal providence that happened to me here on Facebook. Not long ago, I became acquainted with a talented photographer, Aviv Yitzhaki, who has been photographing primarily urban landscapes since the 1970s, both in Israel and abroad. His work includes street photography and portraits.
"Yesterday, he posted a picture of his parents in the snow, in the Hadar neighborhood of Haifa, and I mentioned that my father is also from there and that my late grandfather had a shop on Herzl Street where he repaired baby carriages (who even remembers that used to be a profession?)."
Within a short time, Yitzhaki sent her a private message with the most precious keepsake of her grandfather. Since the shop was small and cramped, her grandfather used to work on the sidewalk. "Aviv happened to pass by that day and captured my grandfather in the middle of his work through the lens," Gros-Galeb recounts. "It’s an authentic photo of a craftsman completely immersed in his work, probably unaware that anyone was taking his picture." How moving.
