Six Days in the Desert: Survival Against All Odds

Laberton, Australia: Reg Fogarty, a 62-year-old camel hunter, defied all odds by surviving six days in the scorching heat of the Australian outback without water or food. In a rather miraculous fashion, he managed to stay alive by consuming dozens of black ants.

Reg and his brother Ray set out from their home towards the remote desert plains to hunt wild camels. On their way back, Reg asked to stop the car and got out to chase a camel he spotted on foot. When the brothers lost sight of each other, Ray realized Reg was missing. He quickly alerted the local police, but it took them six (!) days to find him.

Ray guided the officers to the last known sighting of his brother, but the searches in the area initially proved fruitless. On the sixth day, just as he was about to give up, his family found him lying under a fruit tree, surviving on black ants. "It’s a miracle he survived such extreme heat without water or food," remarked one of the officers.
