Now imagine what's scarier than walking on a transparent glass bridge 3,500 feet (1,080 meters) above a dizzying abyss? The answer: halfway across, realizing something's wrong. This was the scenario faced by visitors this week on the new bridge at Yuntai Mountain, China.
Apparently, the culprit behind the broken glass was one of the visitors, who thought it would be amusing to test the glass's strength as claimed by the builders. He threw a stainless steel cup on the glass, and to his and everyone's horror, one of the double-paned glass panels quickly fell into the abyss below.
It's unclear why visitors were allowed to keep walking on the bridge before the issue was resolved, but after this incident, it's doubtful tourists will continue flocking to the area. "Suddenly, I heard a scream behind me, and I froze. I looked down at the glass floor and was horrified to see a piece missing," one visitor recalled. "Even though it was the top panel, I was terrified to walk there. It was honestly a miracle nothing happened to us."
