"Dear Dad, it's been a while since we've been in touch. I'm fine and happy in Richmond. I'd love to hear from you. Have a happy Father's Day. Love, Duane."
USA: Tears welled up in the eyes of 87-year-old Mr. Schrock as he read this line in a letter signed by his son, Duane Schrock Jr., who passed away in 1995. The father, with a heavy heart, shared that there was estrangement and conflict between him and his son at the time, as he struggled to accept his son's extreme lifestyle choices. "We tried to reconcile several times, but it didn't work. There were always disagreements and a lack of understanding about the lifestyle he chose to lead," he said.
The letter reached the father in an unexpected way, delivered by a mail carrier. Although it arrived 20 years late, to the father it "restores faith in the postal service," he said, adding that he sees the series of events as 'a sign from above' and hopes to reunite with his dear son someday in heaven.
