Chimps vs. Drones: A Wildlife Showdown

When the Dutch zoo, Royal Burgers' Zoo, decided to send a drone to film the chimpanzee habitat, the staff didn't anticipate strong opposition from the residents.

Chimps are known for their intelligence, and in this video clip, filmed by the drone, it's evident they also fiercely resist intrusions and industrial spying. Initially, all appears calm in the domain. However, one chimp soon becomes agitated by the surveillance and moves quickly to protect the privacy of its community.

Chimps might not be adept with sophisticated technology, but they certainly know how to use their limbs. You can see the irked chimp grab a long branch, attempting to swat at the flying drone to either drive it away or bring it crashing down.

The video shows that the chimp was at least partly successful: the drone indeed took a solid hit from the branch.
