Clever Bathroom Design: How to Fit a Bathtub in a Small Space

A bathroom with a tub is a dream for many, but as living spaces shrink, this dream can often seem impossible. We said almost impossible. In fact, there’s a solution for everything in life, even fitting a bathtub in a space where none seems to belong.

Size doesn't equate to comfort. You can enjoy full comfort with a smaller bathtub.

To install a bathtub, it’s recommended that the room's size is no smaller than 1.75 meters in width and 2.10 meters in length. With these minimum dimensions, a variety of small tubs, even a mini jacuzzi, are possibilities. If your bathroom is smaller, you can consider ofuro tubs.

Custom-made bathtubs, designed specifically for your desired space, are also an option.

Freestanding bathtubs with legs are another great choice and are often available in small sizes. Another clever design idea is using a shower that doubles as a tub. Styled correctly, it can look fantastic.

Pay attention to the materials used for the bathtub, as they can affect comfort and size. The standard tub material is acrylic, which is reasonably priced, durable, comfortable, low-maintenance, but might crack. Other options include porcelain, galvanized steel, cast iron, and even marble.

Important Tip: Before purchasing a bathtub with non-standard weight, and if you live on an upper floor, consult with an engineer or architect to ensure the floor can support the weight and to check the availability of installation areas.

For a jacuzzi, remember you’ll need an electrical outlet 30 cm above floor level.
