"Want all the captives to be freed quickly and for our soldiers to come home safely? Want our enemies to be vanquished? Join a global prayer every day at 4:30 PM Israel time, wherever you are. Spread the word and impact the situation for the better."
These simple words, sent recently to so many people, are the initiative of one woman named Malka Edelman. She felt compelled to act. "Everyone experienced the events of that tragic day in their own way," she shares about what led up to it. "Personally, I felt two things strengthened within me—the immense importance of prayer and the unity of the Jewish people. These were things so tangibly realized on that day and in the period after. I felt we must preserve and continue them in greater strength, so that Hashem will answer our pleas, return the captives, and protect our soldiers and all of Israel. I searched for something to counter the sense of weakness that sometimes surrounds us, something to help us not succumb to despair, rather to strengthen us so we can be filled with goodness, joy, and faith."
Then Malka had an idea: to unite all the Jewish people at the same time in a large prayer, understanding that prayer and unity are strength, which we need. During those days, she read in the Zohar that "everything happening in reality is just the Creator's way of waiting for the prayers of Israel to grant them salvation," which reinforced and motivated her initiative. Malka decided to take action and create a website where prayers would be shared on that great day when everyone would unite together.
However, something interesting happened: "When people were exposed to my activity, they wondered, 'Why just one day and one prayer? Why not make it regular?'" she explains. Thus was born the idea of setting up a site that presents Psalm 91, in addition to offering a collection of prayers for download and print, such as prayers for soldiers and their safety, prayers for the release of captives, prayers for protection, redemption, and the peace of Israel, and more.
"Throughout the generations, we have seen that when the Jewish people united in prayer, they experienced miracles with Hashem's help, and I am sure the same will be true now," Malka explains, urging everyone to join the prayers on the website daily. "These prayers are intended for anyone who wants to be a part of the prayer and unity of the Jewish people. There is no prize for praying, no one knows if you prayed or read them, and you don't have to donate money or give anything else—just dedicate a few minutes and pray. We need to unite in prayer and prepare vessels for the miracles Hashem surely wants to do for us."
Malka notes that although she initiated the site, many others helped her along the way, including Yochai Cohen, a web developer who invested hours in programming and also helped with graphic design. "At this stage, many people have already joined the prayers on the site, but our aspiration is to reach much further, not a single Jew in the land or worldwide should be unaware of the site and the opportunity to pray together. May we all rally together to cry out to Hashem daily for salvation, and may redemption come soon with mercy. Amen."
