Daily Halacha: Using Perfume and Treating Kids on Shabbat
A clear explanation of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef’s rulings on giving children medicine and using perfume on Shabbat

Is it allowed to give medicine to a child on Shabbat?
According to halacha (Jewish law), children under the age of nine are considered to be in the category of "ill but not in danger." Because of this, it is allowed to give them any medication they need on Shabbat. This includes things like eye drops, ear drops, and similar treatments.

Is it allowed to use perfume on Shabbat?
It is permitted to apply perfume on your body and even on your hair on Shabbat. However, you should not spray or apply perfume to your clothing. This is because of a halachic concern called "molid reicha," which means creating a new scent.
