Trauma, Childhood Pain & Healing

Rabbi YY Jacobson

Why is the Torah portion about family trauma and rupture called Vayeshev — “settling down”? Through a transformative reading of Rashi and Midrash, we learn that the deepest shalva isn’t surface calm, but inner truth, authenticity, and soul-level wholeness. Sometimes what feels like “everything falling apart” is actually the unfolding of real healing — where cover-ups break, truth emerges, and a deeper serenity is finally possible.
