Vayeitzei – Part 3

Rabbi David Kaplan

In Parshat Vayeitzei, when Jacob arrives at Lavan’s home, Lavan greets him with the words “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” On the surface, it expresses family kinship. Commentators note, however, that Lavan’s motives were material and self-interested he saw Jacob’s strength and potential benefit.
