In the midst of a family outing on a New Zealand beach, a father and son were startled by the sight of an unusual black fish 'hopping' in the shallow water. Closer inspection revealed what seemed like 'feet' among the fish's fins. As avid fish enthusiasts, they decided to take the beautiful fish home to add to their large aquarium collection. Unfortunately, the fish didn't survive the trip.
At this point, the father and son decided to donate the fish to the local science museum, known as the TE PAPA MUSEUM. "We're lucky to see a fish like this about once every two years," said Andrew Stewart, a fish expert. "We believe this fish belongs to the anglerfish family, though it's very rare to find an angler that is entirely black."
Now, scientists hope that a DNA analysis will provide a broader understanding of this fish species from a scientific perspective.
