Discover the Royal Midrib: A Hidden Gem for Seasonal Cough Relief
Balango, known in Persian medicine, is a plant used globally to support respiratory health and strengthen the lungs.

There are many types of seeds known to benefit health, such as flaxseed and chia. Seeds hold the plant's significant potential, containing concentrated amounts of beneficial substances.
One lesser-known seed to most of us is called the "Royal Midrib" in Hebrew, but more commonly known as "Balango."
Balango is a medicinal plant recognized in Persian medicine and beyond. It's widespread in China, India, Afghanistan, and throughout Europe, celebrated for its ability to support the respiratory system and strengthen the lungs.
It's great for persistent, dry coughs that are annoying and bothersome. For coughs with phlegm, when it's tough to clear - Balango can ease and improve the condition.
Royal Midrib offers support for recurrent lung inflammations and strengthens the body when facing upper respiratory tract diseases. For teachers, lecturers, cantors – anyone who uses their vocal cords and needs them strengthened or suffers from hoarseness and difficulty speaking – Balango helps reinforce and support. With its abundant antioxidants, Balango can reduce the damage of smoking, both active and passive.
You can find it in specialty spice shops, mainly in markets.
How do you use it?
Dissolve a teaspoon of Balango seeds in a glass of lukewarm (not boiling) water. Stir. It's best if the glass is covered. Let it sit for at least half an hour so the active substances in the seeds are released into the water.
You can strain the seeds and drink, or drink with the swollen seeds, if you prefer. For those with a weak digestive system, consider grinding the seeds after soaking to prevent discomfort and digestion strain.
Drink up to three times a day, depending on your needs. Sip in small amounts, allowing the drink to work in the throat area.
You can also grind the seeds and add them to a salad or lukewarm porridge. The seeds are considered a type of "superfood" for strengthening and improving health. Consider adding the soaked seeds to a fruit smoothie to boost nutritional value and enhance vitamin absorption.
This is another plant from ancient folk medicine, known by grandmothers, that performs well, enabling the body to activate its healing processes naturally and correctly, always with our own caution and awareness.
