This week, media in Japan was abuzz as alarmed residents in Tochigi Prefecture reported a mysterious event—a legendary rock split into pieces without any apparent cause.

The rock, a nearly 1,000-year-old attraction among locals, has split, raising concerns. According to Japanese mythology, an evil spirit was said to be encased within this stone.

While the reason for the rock's collapse wasn't visible on the surface, experts claim it has been eroding for years. "Even years ago, if you visited the area, you could see quite large cracks," they noted. "We suspect that the intense rains Japan experienced over the last two years accelerated the erosion, leading to the rock's breakage."

Given that the rock has historically been a pilgrimage site for the Japanese, local authorities are considering restoring it to its original state.
