Hi Rabbi, I wanted to know exactly when it's not permitted to eat meat during the Nine Days? Thank you so much and have a great day!
Answer
Hello! The Sephardic tradition is to avoid eating meat from the beginning of the month of Av. However, in Israel, some Sephardic customs allow meat on the first day of Av (as per Chazon Ovadia, Four Fasts, page 169). Ashkenazi customs avoid meat from Rosh Chodesh Av onward, which includes the first day of Av (Shulchan Aruch, section 551:9, and Mishnah Berurah, note 58). This year, since Tisha B'Av is postponed from Shabbat to Sunday, Ashkenazi customs also prohibit meat on the evening after Tisha B'Av, with permission resumed on Monday morning (Rema Orach Chayim, section 558). According to Sephardic customs, meat is allowed on the night after a postponed Tisha B'Av (Chazon Ovadia, pages 414-415, Or Le'Tzion, part 3, chapter 29, section 26, and Responsa Divrei David, section 32). Warm regards, Hillel Meyers
