Why Scientists Struggle to Create Life from Non-life: Part 2

Even 'billions of years' isn't enough time when considering our DNA's complexity.

#VALUE!

In the previous article, we discussed the complexity of life and learned how even the simplest cell is made up of different machines working simultaneously to perform complex tasks like food intake, digestion, conversion (turning food into energy), respiration, excretion of used air, reproduction, growth, motion, response to various stimuli, and more.

Even the simplest cell requires these functions to occur simultaneously in nature to survive. Therefore, there is no natural way for life to create itself from non-living material. This is strong scientific evidence for the existence of a Creator.

The cooperation between the components of a cell is what allows for the concept known as "life". Without any one of them, the cell would die, which is why there is no natural possibility of creating a living cell from non-life. It's important to understand: this is not a matter of "probability" but rather impossibility. Life isn't like drawing random "chemical cards" from nature's "deck". The living cell is more like building a house of cards with a very particular arrangement of components, and if even one is missing, the entire house of cards collapses.

This is why life from non-life hasn't been achieved, and not even a "theory" exists that can calculate such a scenario, not even imaginatively.

Professor Michael Behe, a biologist who came to believe in Hashem, wrote:

"A troubling, strange silence surrounds the extreme complexity of the cell...", "Molecular evolution is not based on scientific evidence. There's not even a single published scientific article in the entire scientific literature or journals that describe how a complex biochemical system evolved, or even how it could have evolved. There are assumptions that such evolution has occurred, but there is absolutely no experimental or calculation support for these assumptions."

[Darwin's Black Box, The Free Press, p. 185]

Another important point is that according to those who propose theories about an ancient universe, there really isn't enough "time" to accommodate the numerous coincidences necessary for the complexity of life.

How many ways do you think 52 cards can be arranged in a deck? The answer will likely surprise you:

80 million trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion! (If you wish to write it out, that's the number 80 followed by 66 zeroes...)

And how complex is life? The DNA of a single E. coli bacteria cell contains about 3 million nucleotides (letters in the DNA program), with each of these letters having a plan and a purpose in creating this tiny bacterium. To illustrate, imagine a deck of cards winning the right arrangement about 3 million times! Each gene (a code, a unit of information in the DNA) is like winning the lottery again. But there's a limit to the amount of time and space in the universe, even according to their assumptions. Flashy words like "billions of years" are still a very short time when considering the complexity of life in nature.

Biophysicist Dr. Harold Morowitz, in his book "Energy Flow and Biology", calculated that for a single bacterium, a time span much longer than will ever exist in the universe would be required if the sole driving force behind its creation were random molecular combinations."

[C. Folsome, Life: Origin & Evolution, Scientific American, Special Publication 1979]

If even a bacterium is this complex, imagine how complex a human is?

Humans are composed of 75 trillion cells, each cell with its own plan and purpose within the body. The DNA in a human cell contains about 3 billion nucleotides (letters in the DNA program). To write out the entire sequence of the human genome, you would need a stack of books about 50 meters tall.

Famous astrophysicist Fred Hoyle estimated the probability of life forming, reaching the conclusion that it is a nearly impossible chance of one in 10 to the 40,000th power (that's 10 followed by 40 thousand zeroes). There's no fitting way to convey to the human imagination just how impossible this number is. The estimated number of all atoms in the universe is no more than 10 to the 80th power.

[Hoyle F. Nature, Vol. 294, Nov. 1981]

Biochemist Dr. Michael Denton came to the conclusion that Hashem exists and wrote: "The chance that life's information was created from non-life, one with 40,000 numbers after it... is large enough to bury Darwin with all of the theory of evolution"

[Nature, Vol. 294, No. 5837, November 12, p. 148].

What this means is that logically speaking, life being designed by a designer is infinitely more plausible scientifically, since the idea of coincidence is scientifically impossible. This is strong proof for the existence of Hashem.

Imagine that if there were only a 1% chance that life was created by chance, it would mean that it's 99% more likely to conclude that life was designed by a Creator! This means it will always be more rational to conclude the existence of a Creator and not to believe in chance. All the more so when it's much, much less than 1%...

So, the question arises: how are there still atheists in the world?

I suppose most are unaware of these facts, and those who know choose to close their eyes out of blind faith in future discoveries that might one day enable their atheism...

Zoologist Pierre-Paul Grasse, President of the French Academy of Sciences, is an atheist who admits the weak faith in random mutations, writing: "It is difficult to believe in the appropriate appearance of mutations that meet the needs of animals and plants. However, according to the Darwinian theory, every single plant, and every single animal requires thousands of lucky events compatible with its survival. Miracles have become commonplace: events with improbable probability have not been long in coming... chance has become a kind of Supreme Providence under the umbrella of atheism. They do not mention its name, but worship it secretly"

[Pierre-P Grasse, Evolution of Living Organisms, New York: Academic Press, 1977. P.103-107]

Scientists are forced to admit there isn't enough time on Earth for the creation of all the "successful" mutations. Prof. G. Wald admits: "If you make a rough estimate... it seems to require a magnitude of 10 million years to establish a mutation. That is, each of the amino acid changes appears relatively frequently as a pathology, but to establish one such change as a regular feature of a certain species seems to take time of a magnitude of 10 million years".

[G. Wald, Discussions, in: Mathematical Challenges to the Neo-Darwinian Interpretation of Evolution, 12, 19 P. Morhead & M. Kaplan eds. 1967.]

Evolutionist Prof. Ali Demirsovi: "Essentially, the probability of the formation of a cytochrome-C sequence is equivalent to zero. That is, if life requires a specific sequence, it can be said that this probability might materialize once in the entire universe. Otherwise, some supernatural forces beyond our definition would have had to intervene in its creation. Accepting this possibility does not fit the scientific purpose. Therefore, we must focus on the first hypothesis"

[Ali Demirsovy, Kalitim ve Evrim (Inheritance and Evolution), Ankara: Meteksan Publishing Co., 1984, p.61

It seems that atheist scientists are similar to those who first shoot the arrow and only then draw the target around it. That is, they initially assume the impossible premise that life must have been created without the intervention of a higher power, and after establishing this as an irrefutable axiom, they come to believe in impossible absurdities of coincidences.
