Capricorn is the tenth sign of the zodiac, ruled by the planet Saturn (Shabtai) — a planet associated with discipline, perseverance, and structure. In Jewish tradition, the Hebrew month of Tevet, aligned with Capricorn, is connected to the tribe of Dan, to whom Yaakov blessed: “Dan shall be a serpent by the road, a viper along the path.” This symbolizes strategic strength — the ability to defend, confront challenges, and protect the nation from harm, just as a serpent strikes when necessary and with precision.

The most striking trait of those born under Capricorn is their unyielding ambition. No obstacle or setback can deter them; they move forward with quiet determination until they reach their goal.

Gifts and Strengths

The month of Tevet is associated with anger, but in the mystical sense, this energy can be channeled positively. As the Talmud teaches: “A person should always incite his good inclination against his evil inclination” (Berachot 5a). In this way, Capricorns can use their inner fire to conquer negativity, correct bad habits, and strengthen self-discipline.

Capricorns are steady, responsible, and mature individuals. When given a task, they can be trusted to complete it with care and precision. They possess strong self-discipline and a keen sense of responsibility.

They excel in planning and organization, showing great dedication and efficiency in their work. Practical and grounded, they approach life logically and are rarely swept away by emotion or fantasy.

Financially, they are cautious and strategic, preferring long-term security over risky ventures. They have remarkable mental endurance, enabling them to withstand stress and pressure without losing their composure.

Weaknesses and Areas for Growth

In Kabbalistic symbolism, Capricorn (Gedi) is linked to the “Se’ir” — the goat or “hairy one”, reminiscent of Eisav, described as red and impulsive: “Please let me gulp down some of that red, red stew” (Bereishit 25:30). This represents the fiery blood and intensity within Capricorn, a trait that must be refined and directed properly.

The Sages teach that the liver — called the “storehouse of blood”, governs anger. Thus, the spiritual work of Capricorn is to master the trait of anger, transforming passion into patience and control.

Capricorns can resist external authority and dislike being forced into conformity. At times, they may display stubbornness or dominance, expecting others to follow their lead. Their spiritual task is to tame the wild goat within, cultivating humility and restraint.

They also tend to speak impulsively, saying things in the heat of the moment, and should practice more deliberation and measured speech.

Emotionally, Capricorns may struggle to express warmth or affection. They can appear cold or distant, even when they care deeply. To soften this emotional reserve, they must follow the teaching: “After one’s actions, the heart follows.” By performing acts of kindness and love, they awaken and expand their emotional capacity, turning quiet strength into heartfelt connection.

The Spiritual Mission of Capricorn

Capricorn’s spiritual path is to transform discipline into devotion and ambition into purpose. Their steadfast nature, when guided by humility and compassion, becomes a source of stability for others.

Through self-mastery, consistency, and genuine care, Capricorns embody the verse: “The steps of a good person are established by the Lord.” Their climb up the mountain of life — though steep and demanding, leads not to worldly status, but to inner mastery, spiritual strength, and enduring light.
