What should a guest do on Saturday night if they are unsure whether to go home or stay as a guest until the next day?
Those who are guests at relatives' homes on Shabbat need to light at their own homes on Saturday night. If they are uncertain whether they will stay overnight at their hosts' home, they should contribute a few coins to participate in their hosts' lighting. If they ultimately go to their own home, they should light without a blessing [Yalkut Yosef Chanukah, p. 504].
When should someone who is stringent about ending Shabbat according to Rabbeinu Tam light the Chanukah menorah?
If one's wife does not follow the stringency of Rabbeinu Tam's opinion, while the husband observes it as an additional stringency, he may appoint his wife to light the candles before Rabbeinu Tam's time. However, if he considers Rabbeinu Tam's opinion as a matter of basic law, he should wait until Rabbeinu Tam's time [Chazon Ovadia p. 188].
