Is There a Mitzvah to Hold Meals on Chanukah?
The authorities disagree on whether there is a mitzvah in the meals held during Chanukah, and according to halacha, these meals are optional. However, if these gatherings are used to strengthen the community, they are certainly considered meals of mitzvah (Chazon Ovadia p. 18).
How should one act if delayed at work until after nightfall?
If a person is delayed at work, it is better to appoint his wife to light the menorah at the proper time. However, if his wife is not willing to light without her husband, he should light when he returns home [Yalkut Yosef Chanukah, p. 273].
