Is it permissible to wear weekday clothes on Shabbat?
It is proper for a person to set aside beautiful and clean clothes in honor of Shabbat and wear Shabbat clothes throughout Shabbat, not like those who change to weekday clothes in the middle of Shabbat [Shulchan Aruch 262].
The poskim [Magen Avraham and Mishnah Berurah 5] bring in the name of the Ari z"l that one should not wear on Shabbat any garment that one wears on weekdays.
Is it permissible to wear Shabbat clothes on weekdays?
The Magen Avraham [2, and also Sha'ar HaKavanot] wrote that one should not wear Shabbat clothes on weekdays, though for a mitzvah event one may be lenient. However, for a brit or other honorable events, one should not wear Shabbat clothes on weekdays.
Even though there were great rabbis of Israel who wore white clothes, nevertheless one should not deviate from today's custom where white is not worn, and one should be concerned about appearing haughty [Yalkut Yosef Siman 262].
