Researchers from the University of Salford in the UK have been studying a type of green tea called matcha, derived from young tea leaves through a slow process.
In a study published in prestigious medical journals about three years ago, researchers found that an extract prepared from matcha leaves prevents cancer cells from nourishing themselves, thus halting their growth and spread in the body.
One of the leading researchers, Professor Michael Lisanti, states that matcha leaves in their powdered form suppress the metabolism that provides energy to the cancer cells in the mitochondria. "The tea helps put the cancer cells into what is called a 'quiet metabolic state'," says Professor Lisanti. "In other words, this way the cancer cells are silenced and their activity is suppressed until they die."
The head of the Cancer Research Information Center in the UK, Martin Ludwig, said that "the study's findings reveal that matcha green tea eliminates cancer cells. Although the research is still in its infancy, we are very pleased with the result so far, and it seems that matcha tea extract prevents the growth and spread of cancer."
In the country, matcha tea can be purchased at pharmacies and health food stores. Its additional benefits include boosting heart health, strengthening the immune system, improving general energy levels, preventing the proliferation of oral bacteria, maintaining a healthy metabolism, eliminating bacteria and infections, aiding in solving digestive problems, and more.
