Nausea is a fairly common phenomenon, but it is caused by a wide range of factors. The most well-known nausea is morning sickness during pregnancy, but both women and men can experience nausea unrelated to pregnancy. Causes of nausea can include dehydration, migraines, heartburn, sunstroke, food poisoning, infections, digestive problems, and more. Nausea can also be a side effect of cancer treatments, l'chaim, and there are many people who experience nausea regularly during car travel.
How to Prevent Nausea?
There are many foods and drinks known, to varying degrees, to ease nausea. We've gathered some of these recommendations for you.
1. Ginger – A particularly effective home remedy for nausea. You can make ginger tea by steeping one teaspoon of ginger root in a cup of boiling water; mix ginger with honey, lemon juice, and mint juice and drink every few hours; or eat ginger root itself.
2. Cider – Mix apple cider vinegar and honey in a cup of water. It can be drunk hot or cold.
3. Mint – You can drink mint tea or sprinkle a few drops of mint oil onto a tissue and inhale.
4. A mixture of 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of hot water is helpful for nausea but is not suitable for pregnant women.
5. Lemon is very helpful for nausea, both when eaten and smelled. It is recommended to drink lightly sweetened lemon juice.
6. Pickle juice from a can, or preferably homemade, is a surprising yet effective home remedy for nausea.
7. Clove – Steep a bit of ground clove in water, strain, and drink. Alternatively, you can inhale a few drops of clove oil.
8. Cumin – Add a teaspoon of cumin to a cup of yogurt or milk and drink. You can also make tea from cumin seeds with a pinch of nutmeg.
9. Cold water, ice cubes, or a popsicle – The refreshing coldness of ice or water greatly helps ease nausea.
10. Fennel – Brew herbal tea from fennel seeds with lemon juice and honey. Drink slowly, and chew the remaining fennel seeds at the bottom of the cup.
11. Cola – Surprisingly, cold (non-diet) cola is known to relieve nausea and even stomach pains. It is not recommended to drink a lot of cola, but one cup during nausea may be effective.
12. Cinnamon – Boil half a teaspoon of cinnamon in a cup of boiling water, strain, add honey, and drink. Very effective.
13. Cucumber is a well-known home remedy for treating nausea. It's preferable to eat the cucumber cold from the refrigerator.
14. Anise tea is also effective in relieving nausea. Add a quarter teaspoon of anise to a cup of boiling water, strain, and drink.
