Many studies conducted on the link between deodorant use and diseases, and skin rashes have found that using them blocks sweat from exiting - which essentially means all the impurities stay inside.

Why is this so?

Our sweat contains a component called dermcidin, which is known for its exceptional ability to destroy bacteria, fungi, and infections.

An interesting article published on an American health website presented a study on the lime fruit (a type of lemon) which contains similar compounds to dermcidin.

In the study, participants who suffered from intense odors of excessive sweating were asked to use lime juice as a natural deodorant daily. One of the testers decided to put her impressions on paper, and this is what she wrote.

She sprayed lime juice on her underarm every morning

"I'm caressing the lemon that's soon going to be inside the small glass bottle I bought in advance and will keep in the fridge. I love trying new things, but I'm a little skeptical about the solution offered to us. Can lemon juice really solve a problem I couldn't fix with dozens of products? I'm a bit worried they might be pulling my leg," she wrote.

Nevertheless, a commitment is a commitment, and she adhered to the researchers' instructions by spraying the lime juice on her underarm every morning for two weeks. "My big conclusion today, after two weeks - it worked! I missed my usual deodorant scent wafting from me, but the sweat odor disappeared as if it was never there."

"But wait. Before I let you go to the next fascinating article on my blog, I must warn you that it can also cause unpleasant tingling if you spray the lime right after shaving or if exposed to the sun. Consider yourselves warned," she concludes.
