A new study conducted at the University Hospital of Germany explored the link between wearing a tie and simultaneous chemical reactions in the brain, reaching far-reaching conclusions.

In the study, which involved about 30 young participants, researchers found a direct association between wearing a tie and issues like limited blood supply to the brain and intraocular pressure.
15 participants were asked to tie a 'Windsor' knot with their ties and leave it around their neck for fifteen minutes. Meanwhile, they were connected to an MRI machine that monitored their brain's blood supply before, during, and after wearing the tie - and the results were surprising.

The blood supply of all 15 participants who wore the tie decreased by approximately 7.5% compared to those who were not asked to wear a tie at all. Furthermore, researchers found that wearing a tie also caused most participants to experience increased intraocular pressure.
