When discussing the complex topic of immune system disorders, it's important to distinguish between two types of immune deficiencies: the first is a congenital deficiency, and the second is an acquired deficiency.

The congenital deficiency is mainly caused by hereditary phenomena such as decreased production of white blood cells (known as leukopenia), defective white cells, or other missing components in the immune system.

The acquired deficiency, on the other hand, is caused by infections (mainly chronic) that disrupt the system's function, and in some cases, can even lead to the development of cancer.

Now, Dr. Sergey Bubnovsky - a Russian doctor who specializes in recovery from severe accidents and illnesses, explains that strengthening the immune system is possible through a popular treatment with... ice water. Yes, that's right: "Daily immersion of the feet in ice water for 20 minutes stimulates blood circulation and improves immune system functions," Bubnovsky explains, adding that this treatment has been scientifically tested.

"The University of Virginia published the results of its study on this treatment, finding that ice water releases a very important substance in the immune system called norepinephrine – also known as noradrenaline," Bubnovsky explains. "It's essentially a hormone secreted by the adrenal gland in situations of stress and anxiety. Norepinephrine is essentially a response to psychological stress factors, among other things, intended to prevent blood pressure spikes and balance glucose in the blood."

According to him, this treatment is also highly beneficial for muscle pain, which is why many trainers recommend athletes take an ice bath after training.
