#VALUE!
Most people don't know this, but almost half of the nutrients in a lemon are found in its peel. Due to its bitter taste, most of us tend to throw it in the trash and use only the fruit itself. However, it turns out this might not be a good idea. Beyond making candied citrus peels (after thoroughly cleaning them of pests, of course), it turns out lemon peels can be really beneficial, especially for those suffering from joint pain.
An article published in the American health magazine Daily natural life sheds light on this intriguing topic, claiming that an ointment made of olive oil and lemon peels is highly effective against these and other types of pain. "Lemon peel contains wonderful and important substances like lemon oil, citronella, citric acid, malic acid, formic acid, hesperidin, pectins, and more," explain researchers who studied the effects of lemon peels on healing various diseases.
The lemon peel also contains a special disinfectant, which can even combat fever. Additionally, research on the essential oils in the peel has found them to be extremely beneficial in reducing joint pain because they cause the relaxation of blood vessels, significantly diminishing the sensation of pain.
How to prepare the ointment and how to use it?
You will need extra virgin olive oil, two large organic lemons (emphasis on organic), two eucalyptus leaves, and a small jar.
Preparation method:
Peel the lemon and put the peels into the jar. Then add the olive oil until it is fully covered, and insert the two eucalyptus leaves.
Close the jar tightly and leave it in a cool, closed place for two weeks. After that, you can use the resulting ointment on the aching areas, but due to its strong smell, it might be best to apply it overnight.
