#VALUE!
Do you drink coffee first thing in the morning? Start a workout? Take medications? These are everyday activities we all do, but you should know that they are not recommended on an empty stomach. Pay attention to the following list:
1. Traveling
One of the less recommended things to do when you haven't yet consumed anything is traveling on an empty stomach, which can cause severe nausea. Therefore, it is advisable to eat something light like a light sandwich or crackers (as opposed to a fatty meal or foods high in legumes and other bloating foods) before the trip.
2. Drinking Coffee or Tea
A common habit is drinking coffee first thing in the morning, but actually, drinking coffee on an empty stomach is a bad idea. Note that drinking coffee can increase stomach acidity, which can lead to heartburn throughout the day.
3. Taking Medications
It's true, some medications need to be taken on an empty stomach, but most should be taken after or with food. For example, medications that cause nausea should be taken after eating, as this reduces the likelihood of experiencing side effects. Additionally, taking pills after a meal reduces the risk of heartburn, gastric irritation, and ulcers. Furthermore, taking medications after eating helps the body absorb them better.
4. Physical Activity
The best food to eat before a workout is carbohydrates. The body's carbohydrate stores are called glycogen, found particularly in muscles and the liver. Glycogen is stored in the body for 12-16 hours before the body needs more. When glycogen levels are high, the body cannot burn fat, so it's important to eat carbohydrates, but not to overconsume them. If you perform physical activities like a short walk, the body can still cope, but when it comes to high-intensity exercise, it's advisable not to leave your stomach empty.
