#VALUE!
Every day, we throw away food that seems less than perfect but is actually still edible. Discover 4 common foods that may appear spoiled to the eye but are perfectly safe to eat and can be kept in the fridge a bit longer:
1. Dry Cereal
Sometimes we find our cereal dry and crumbly. It might not taste as good as when fresh, but it isn't a sign of spoilage. Just add some milk to overcome the taste issue and enjoy your meal. However, be sure to check that the lack of texture isn't due to an expired date; always look at the last use date first.
2. Crystallized Honey
If honey has been in the fridge a long time, it may harden and thicken. There's no concern in consuming honey in this state. It's important to know that honey never spoils, and its special texture prevents bacteria from thriving. To restore the texture, simply heat the honey and it will return to its natural state.
3. Yogurt with Clear Liquid on Top
While it might look unappetizing and many people dispose of it, you’ll be surprised to know it's actually the healthiest part of the yogurt.
This clear liquid is pure natural protein known as whey. It contains calcium, vitamin D, and potassium. Discarding it means giving up a significant portion of yogurt's health benefits. If you find it unpleasant to drink the liquid, simply stir it back into the yogurt.
4. Discolored Meat in the Fridge
Often, when we take ham out of the fridge and see a color change, it's immediately thrown away. However, the United States Department of Agriculture clarifies that discolored meat in the fridge poses no health risk. On the other hand, if the meat is sticky or has an odd smell, it's recommended not to consume it.
