Contrary to popular belief that metabolism is solely dependent on genetics, recent studies reveal that personal choices and lifestyle play a significant role. In fact, our metabolism can adjust based on the decisions we make and the lifestyle we lead.
It's true that as we age, our metabolic activity slows down, but there's a lot we can do. Much of our metabolic activity depends on taking personal responsibility to act correctly and provide the body with the precise energy it needs to boost metabolism.
How do you do that? Good question: Below are three main tips that, when combined with regular physical activity, will set you on the right path.
1. Consume Proteins Sufficiently
Proteins are found in animal products like meat, poultry, fish, cheese, milk, eggs, legumes, and more. Protein is essential for various bodily functions, from red blood cell production to building muscle tissues that "burn" twice the calories compared to fat tissues.
To enhance metabolic activity, which never stops, you need to consume sufficient protein to allow for important processes like building new bones, muscles, and tissues. Protein regulates our body's metabolism, burns food, and transforms it into available energy.
2. Never Drink Water in the Following Way
Talking about rapid metabolism, drinking water is a necessary, essential, and important step to achieve this goal. A body without sufficient fluids won't perform metabolism quickly, and the caloric burn rate will slow accordingly.
A study in Germany indicates that drinking cold water throughout the day can speed up metabolism. In contrast, drinking water at room temperature significantly slows the process. The logic is simple: the body works faster and exerts more effort with cold water because it needs to bring it to body temperature, unlike room temperature water, which requires no effort.
3. Eat Small Meals Throughout the Day and Prefer Them Over Large Ones
To ensure the metabolic process occurs at the right pace, you need to eat small meals every 3-4 hours and prefer them over large meals. The reason is that when the body receives small meals every few hours, its defense mechanism against hunger is deactivated, and the brain signals the body that it can relax and there's no need to raid the fridge or constantly think about food.
To conclude, it should be noted that all of the above must be done wisely, with a lot of thought and precision, and according to each individual's medical condition.
