A recently published article in one of the medical journals and on the site 'Fibromyalgia News Today' managed to surprise several readers, and not without reason.
Many intriguing studies have been published on the website about fibromyalgia, its symptoms, and ways to alleviate them - one of which is a study conducted on the thyme plant. Researchers were able to demonstrate that essential oils emitted from thyme maintain anti-rheumatic, antiseptic, and antifungal properties, but that’s not all.
"Drinking thyme tea every morning can reduce the viral load in the body and make it an effective treatment against fibromyalgia symptoms," claim the researchers. One of the reasons they cite is the fact that thyme is full of vitamins and minerals such as iron, potassium, calcium, folic acid, vitamin A, and more. "If you suffer from fibromyalgia, consistently drinking thyme tea every morning before breakfast can help you and provide significant relief for your joint and muscle pain," the researchers suggest.
Their 'legendary' tea recipe is made from a few leaves of thyme (dried or fresh) boiled in a pot with a teaspoon of chopped fresh ginger and a bit of honey to sweeten the bitterness. Afterward, it is important to filter the water through a special mesh strainer and drink about a quarter to half a cup daily.
Who should avoid consuming the tea? People suffering from gastrointestinal disorders, a history of heart diseases, known sensitivity to plants in the mint family (such as rosemary, basil, cumin, zaatar, oregano, and celery), various allergies (especially to grass), people who suffer from shortness of breath, and more. "Thyme tea has been proven beneficial against muscle pain occurring within the framework of fibromyalgia, but there are always exceptions; if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, skin rashes, or joint swelling after drinking the tea, seek immediate medical attention," emphasize the researchers.
