Skin tags, although usually harmless, can be quite a nuisance for those who have them. I remember one of my friends who got married a few years ago to someone who rejected her on their first date just because the skin tags on her neck put him off. Years later, when the proposal came up again, the matchmaker assured him, "She took care of that issue," and lo and behold — the match worked out beautifully this time.

When I asked her what she did to get rid of the skin tags, my friend's response was, "What didn't I do?" It took time, and the results weren't immediate, but she persevered and it paid off. "There were days when I was going crazy over it. He's not the only one who rejected me in matches because of those annoying skin tags, and I don't know why — but I never wanted to undergo surgery. I always preferred to try natural methods and home remedies, and even though it took time, today I thank Hashem for the fact that it eventually worked. And to think, just because of that, I missed out on some good years until I met my intended," she concluded with a slight hesitation.

So what do you know about skin tags? Before we roll up our sleeves and dive into the methods of removal, here are a few important facts to know about them:

  1. It is generally a genetic phenomenon passed down 'from generation to generation'.

  2. The color of skin tags is usually dark or the same as the skin.

  3. Skin tags appear on the body in various shapes and sizes — some are smooth, others wrinkled.

  4. Despite numerous studies, modern medicine still cannot explain what causes skin tags to appear. The prevailing assumption is it involves friction between affected and healthy skin. In some cases, the development of skin tags has been recorded due to the papillomavirus, diabetes, and during pregnancy — as a result of hormonal changes.

  5. Over 45% of the population suffer from 'hereditary' skin tags.

  6. The conventional medical methods for removing skin tags are divided into four main categories: tying, freezing, burning, drying with nitrogen, and cutting the tag after drying.

The most natural and effective methods involve applying:

1. Tea tree oil

2. Fig tree milk

3. Castor oil

4. Apple cider vinegar

All four of these oils have been found effective in drying skin tags within a week to a month after starting the treatment.

How to use: Moisten a small piece of cotton wool, drip about five drops of the chosen oil on it, gently rub it on the tag, and then attach it to the skin with a plaster for several hours. Repeat the process three times a day until the tag is completely dry.
