The British BBC network published a list of the 100 healthiest and most nutritious foods. Where do tomatoes, cilantro, and sweet potatoes rank? Expect a surprise.

The British BBC network published a list featuring the 100 healthiest and most nutritious foods. The foods were ranked based on the optimal and balanced nutrition they provide, based on the analysis of scientific studies.

Over 1,000 different foods were examined in the study, and they were scored based on their comprehensive contribution to a person’s daily intake. It is noteworthy that the results are surprising as the calculation was not based on caloric content but on the amount and variety of nutrients in the food.

The scientists emphasized that even according to this index, it is necessary to combine the food with additional foods to adequately meet all of a person's nutritional needs.

Leading the list is the almond, with a score of 97. Although it is a high-calorie food, it is rich in unsaturated fatty acids.

Following the almond, in second place, is the smooth custard apple with a score of 96. Although the tropical fruit contains a lot of sugar, its high content of vitamins A, C, B, and potassium earned it the high status.

Chia seeds, which help create a feeling of fullness, ranked fifth with 85 points.

The tomato came in at 61st place with a score of 56, due to its status as an excellent source of potassium, vitamins, and folic acid.

Cilantro received a score of 61, ranking it 36th, thanks to its rich carotenoid content, which aids in boosting body health and alleviating heat and pain. Wrapping up the list is the sweet potato - which does not contain many calories, but also, compared to other vegetables, is not particularly rich in nutrients.

Additional foods appearing in the top 100 include watercress, pumpkin seeds, beet leaves, deep sea fish, dried spinach, and mandarins.
