Blood pressure is a common cause of heart attacks, but a study conducted at Tufts University in Boston, USA, has shown that the hibiscus plant, with its numerous benefits, is also effective in reducing blood pressure.

It has been found that hibiscus contains a high level of polyphenols – strong antioxidants whose extract's treatment against cancer cells has been proven particularly successful. What else is it good for? Researchers have found that hibiscus also helps reduce abdominal fat, improve type 2 diabetes, enhance urinary system functions, including removing kidney stones, and more.

The study participants, most of whom had high blood pressure, were asked to consume hibiscus tea daily and record their blood pressure readings immediately afterward. The results showed that hibiscus tea significantly lowered blood pressure readings among the participants, according to researchers – no less than the chemical medications they had previously taken to lower it.

Researchers discovered that hibiscus tea contains anti-inflammatory extracts that lower blood pressure by about 10 points in the tests.
