For years, essential oils have been known for their significant health benefits, both physical and mental. Among the dozens available, two have been scientifically proven to be particularly effective in improving gum function and health: tea tree oil and clove oil.

In studies, researchers were able to demonstrate that these specific oils help prevent plaque formation, and when their efficacy was tested against fluoride, the findings showed they are equally effective without any side effects.

The active ingredient in clove oil is eugenol—a type of pungent acid with antiseptic and healing properties, which also gives clove its distinctive taste. Tea tree oil contains compounds characterized by antibacterial properties that eliminate bacteria.

Now that you know these facts, try to imagine what the combination of these two oils can create: Research conducted at an American Institute for Preventive Dentistry proved that a combination of the two oils is particularly beneficial for maintaining gum health, including the prevention of bad breath, and it is recommended to replace industrial (and allegedly unhealthy) toothpastes with a natural toothpaste containing both.

How do you create this paste? Here is the recipe:

In a tablespoon of coconut oil, mix two drops of tea tree oil and two drops of clove oil. Brush your teeth and apply the healthy mixture on your gums daily or as needed.
