Toenail fungus is one of the conditions that are hardest to get rid of, and the more treatment is delayed, the greater the difficulty grows, both in terms of pain and swelling, and in terms of appearance. The infection typically appears as yellow/black spots with a white powdery substance underneath, which over time thickens and creates an unpleasant smell.

Conventional medicine offers many products to treat the problem, but almost all have been proven ineffective or harmful in other ways and come with side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and more. Dr. Axe, an American physician and homeopath, suggests one of the "most effective" methods, he claims, to tackle the tough issue. "When it comes to toenail fungus, using Listerine or other mouth rinse disinfectants has been proven to be most effective," he writes.

According to him, mouth rinse disinfectants contain good antiseptic ingredients like thymol and eucalyptol, which is an essential oil made of 90% eucalyptus oil with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Another excellent material found there is Salicylate, which is an organic acid that kills dead skin cells and allows healthy skin cells to multiply. "The only problem with this solution is that it takes time and requires discipline and consistency," Dr. Axe emphasizes. "Initially you'll see slight changes in the nail color, and after a period of devoted treatment, the problem will disappear without a trace."

To prepare a mouthwash bath for toenail fungus treatment, mix in a bowl equal parts of half a container of Listerine or another mouthwash, and half lukewarm water. Soak the infected feet or hands in it for about twenty minutes to half an hour daily, and then use a special metal nail brush to remove the dead skin cells.

You can also add apple cider vinegar and a few drops of tea tree oil to the water.
